(Archive) Wooby RPG: The Legend of the Woob Blocks - RM2k3 - RMN(?)

(from Wooby RPG: Legend Of The Woob Blocks GamePage on RMN by Dookie - February 4th 2015)

''Wooby RPG - The Legend of the Woob Blocks'' is a Paint stylish incomplete cancelled RPG demo made by Team ''Dookie'' created with RPG Maker 2003 by Enterbrain.

In the beginning of time, Mother Nature took constant care of the Great World. But, like all things, her spirit began to fade. Knowing this, she sealed her powers into several mysterious blocks and hid them in the darkest corners of the world, having faith that in her absence, a hero would rise up and use these blocks to restore balance to the earth.

After many years, rumors of the Woob Blocks began to surface. Evil doers from all edges of the Great World mobilize their forces, and begin searching the globe for these amazing treasures.

Wooby's father, keeper of one of the Woob Blocks, is robbed by his family's arch nemesis, the villain known as Crock. Its up to Wooby to seek out the Woob Blocks before they fall into the wrong hands!
The race is on!"

known bugs:
*if at one point you get teleported to the ocean, hold ctrl and walk up a little bit, and go in the town near the castle
*if when leaving lavendar country on worldmap and trying to enter the checkpoint between the purple and green countries there may be an invisible blockage in the way, just ctrl by it.

(Reference) Looking Forward: The Huntress of The Hollow - RMN

(from RMN - Looking Forward: The Huntress of The Hollow by LordBlueRouge - October 31st 2016)

Over the last few of weeks, following its initial release, I noticed the rpgmaker2003 game "The Huntress of the Hollow" has been generating quite a bit of buzz; hovering on RMN's front page, often dropping down to the 8th spot, only to suddenly climb back up to 3rd or 2nd place.

Now normally, from past experience, we'd probably all chalk this phenomena up, to a semi-popular youtuber doing yet-another let's play of an rpgmaker2003 game.

But after carefully doing a quick google search, it becomes immediately apparent that only a handful of youtubers have actually done a let's play of "The Huntress of the Hollow".

...Either way, it's very unusual for a newly released rpgmaker2003 game to be generating such a large amount of buzz in such a short amount of time, shortly after it's release. But to be able to then, further generate that buzz consistently for 7 solid weeks straight afterwards? That's incredible.

So, rather than bitterly blame this curious occurrence, on some faulty RMN site algorithm, on this special edition of "Looking Back"...with special permission from Tau, I’ve decided to "Look Forward", by sitting down and interviewing the creator of "The Huntress of the Hollow” in order to see what I could learn from, what many consider to be the new face of rpgmaker2003 on RMN.

(Archive) Final Fantasy VII 2D Remake - Vanit

(from Final Fantasy 7 2D Remake's GamePage Blog on RMN by Vanit - December 6th 2013)

Hey guys, finally submitting a page here so my game is more accessible. TLDR: project is largely on hiatus, but I do plan to finish the bombing mission.

A little about me:

I graduated from a Bachelor of Engineering majoring in Software Engineering (2011), and I'm currently working as a developer for a startup (web, Android, iOS).

When I started my degree I decided to experiment on a high level with the programming concepts I was learning in something I was familiar with; RPG Maker 2003. Over the years I've seen many people attempt a 2D remake of FF7 and fail, so I thought I'd try do it right.

(Spotted) Alone - RM2K - RMN

"ALONE is a short 20~ minute game created on June 7th (2015), in only 8 hours, by iddalai for the "RMN Birthday 2015" event held at 'rpgmaker.net'.

It deals with frustrations you may find in internet forums, click here for a more detailed explanation, though I'd advise you try the game first.
While using many RPG characteristics, it plays more like a puzzle game with trial & error and a bit of metroidvania-ish exploration.

The game actually wasn't supposed to have a name, but became known as ALONE..."

(Archive) Alter A.I.L.A Genesis - RM2k3 - RMN

(from PC Gamer by Chris Thursten - February 25, 2011)
"One of the most celebrated games on the network, Alter A.I.L.A Genesis is a side-scrolling cyberpunk epic offering a thorough reworking of traditional JRPG gameplay. Genesis builds upon the existing RPG Maker 2003 combat system, adding an extensive resistance/damage-type system along with a escalating series of EX attacks and 'Field Effects' (environmental conditions) – all of which must be taken into account when building a team. Experienced JRPG players will recognise most if not all of these from other games; but in the context of a lengthy, free adventure built by a single creator it's impressive stuff.

The plot, while familiar, is sufficiently well-told to pass without incident. There are highs and lows – while the game's hand-drawn artwork can be ropey, there's some accomplished spritecraft on display and the soundtrack is punchy without becoming overbearing. Perhaps thanks to its unique perspective, Alter A.I.L.A Genesis doesn't really feel like anything else on RPG Maker – no small feat, given the swap-and-trade nature of the community.

When it comes down to it, though, the combat system is the reason to give Genesis your time. If you're looking to sink a few hours into honing a squad, rooting out hidden areas and working on your boss strategies, this is your game."

(From NeoGaf- "RPG Maker Games: Underlooked Gems" by Dust Golem 12-26-2012)

"A platforming-stealth RPG featuring a futuristic punk world and colorful cast of characters. The game does have turn-based battles when you encounter enemies, but its main gameplay involves stealth invoked through platforming. Surprisingly fun and interesting, mixing in original art with edits, it is different and worth it for anyone looking for a stealth-RPG-Platformer, a strange hybrid but one that works and executes it quite well!"

(Spotted) Nocturne: Rebirth - RMXP - RMN

Via RMN

(from Nocturne: Rebirth's GamePage on RMN by eplipswich - June 4th 2015)

"Vampires are creatures that live amidst the darkness of eternal night. They have absolutely no regard for human lives and treat them like stones to be kicked away.

One night, a girl was running in a forest while being chased by three bandits. Then a black-clothed man passed by and subsequently took them down easily. The girl, who thought she was saved by him, wanted to repay him and thus invited him to her village.

......The man, who was actually a vampire, smiled and accepted her invitation. After all, the more prey, the merrier......

Nocturne: Rebirth is a popular 10 to 20-hour (story-wise) JRPG originally created using RPG Maker XP in 2009 by Shou (or Cogwheel) and translated into English by me, eplipswich. It is actually the remake of the game Nocturne created using RPG Maker 2000 way back in 2002. The differences between the two include new graphics and a new battle system, with only the story virtually unchanged. This version serves as the English version of Nocturne: Rebirth. It is also my second game translation after Seraphic Blue. "

Mirror Download

Note: FFTA is one of the very few FF Fan games that has a really interesting, fully functional but incredibly cumbersome [Jump] mechanic worked out in RPGMAKER2003's Default Battle System. I'll probably add the save file that jumps you straight to this part. But for now I'm uploading it, simply because, I found out today that, it's no longer on RMN.

Marche100 creator of Obama RPG confesses to creative burnout - RMN

I just stumbled upon this today, so I apologize if this is a bit late, I thought this was interesting nonetheless:

On 08/16/2013, Marche100, creator of the RMN cult classic "Obama RPG: Magical Quest 3 HD - Future Legend of Superhuman President Starring Barack Obama" provided a fascinating confession on creative burnout. It sounds very similar to Badluck's struggle with ARA FELL - my question is, how do we avoid this?

I'll probably add a couple of pictures to this and a download, later on, if I can find one.

Either way, he recites his particular ordeal below.

"...Back when I first started making Obama RPG, I had visions of grandeur, an RPG that would try to soar high, like Barkley Shut Up and Jam did. At first, the story was simple, but it expanded. And expanded. And expanded, until I had what I thought was a good game. Then, the first hiatus hit. I had lost the motivation to go on, and yet...I felt like I owed everyone. I felt like it was wrong of me to just up and leave it. Like it was my masterpiece and I needed to complete it. It gnawed at me. Day after day after day. Month after month. Yet, I still didn't want to make it.
