(Archive) Wings of Origin - RM2k3 - [RMHistoria]

 (from RMHistoria - March 15, 2019)

Created by: Carius
Date Released: Nov 2005 / Early 2007 (Demo Remake)
Engine: RM2003

The author Carius was usually known around the GamingWorld community as a keen event programmer. Usually making tech demos for contests and tutorials on how to tackle RM2K3’s many limitations. Despite this reputation he did manage to crank out a more conventional JRPG called Wings of Origin. Starting out as a DBS contest entry, it’s essentially a visual novel with no player exploration with a few battles here and there.

Angel-like people known as “Airfolk” rule the skies. However, the protagonist Takeo is banished from flying ever again. An emotive and vengeful story combined with the use of Brave Fencer Musashi tracks made this small demo stick with me. It’s a ride full of twists and turns all in 18 minutes. What I like most about the writing is that we’re never quite sure of Takeo’s exact motivations for wanting to abandon his grounded life for revenge. The plot presumably sets up Takeo’s son as the actual protagonist. There’s a mysterious figure that appears at the beginning and my hunch is that it might be Takeo’s son from the future. This game will never be completed so we’ll never know! But it says a lot about how much this game accomplishes in such a short time.

There’s actually 3 versions of the game. The DBS contest entry, the 2005 story demo, and the 2007 remake of said demo. The 2005 one is the one I remember, even now I still prefer it though. The music choices are just better in my opinion. The art/mapping might be slightly improved in the 2007 one, but it’s still a general mishmash of Star Ocean / Tales of Phantasia / Rudra. There is interesting DBS experimentation in it but I really just like this demo for the story and the abundant night sky atmosphere.

Estimated length: 20 minutes

(Archive) Alter A.I.L.A Variant - RM2k3 - Neok

(from Alter A.I.L.A Variant's GamePage on RMN by Neok - June 10th 2012)

Alter A.I.L.A. Variant takes place in a modern world, 3 years after the events of Alter A.I.L.A. Genesis. 2 years ago, a great war came to a decisive conclusion thanks to the efforts of a small band of people. Peace should have followed, but there are those who would choose to continue fighting. This is the continuation of that story.

The battle system revolves mainly around each character's Abilities, which are a set of commands specific to that character. Abilities require AP and EX to use. AP is gained every time a character takes a turn. The default is 2. EX is gained every time a character uses an Ability. The default is 1. Note that this may change depending on the situation.

Interview with Mortis and ACC (Creators of OFF)

(Not dead, just very sick...Noticed this link was mysteriously absent from the HG101 write up of Mortis Ghost's "OFF" Decided to repost it here for posterity's sake)

(from HG101 - Interview with Mortis and ACC by Iwant - November 30, 2013)

When 2008 amateur RPG OFF was released on the french-speaking web, it met with surpsingly overwhelming reception for a game made with RPGMaker but obviously achieved little popularity due to the rather private nature of its circulation. Five years later, it is possible to catch sight of characters from that game at various cosplay conventions in the US, miles away from its Belgian homeland.
At the occasion of my article covering the game, I - Iwant - took the initiative to conduct an interview with the guys behind the game: Mortis Ghost and Alias Conrad Coldwood, the artists from the Unproductive Fun Time collab responsible for OFF's creation.

Do not hesitate to take a look at my article: It contains everything you need to know where to findOFF if you still haven't had the chance to touch it before. Let us not wait any longer; here are the interviews. Have a good read!

(Archive) Wooby RPG: The Legend of the Woob Blocks - RM2k3 - RMN(?)

(from Wooby RPG: Legend Of The Woob Blocks GamePage on RMN by Dookie - February 4th 2015)

''Wooby RPG - The Legend of the Woob Blocks'' is a Paint stylish incomplete cancelled RPG demo made by Team ''Dookie'' created with RPG Maker 2003 by Enterbrain.

In the beginning of time, Mother Nature took constant care of the Great World. But, like all things, her spirit began to fade. Knowing this, she sealed her powers into several mysterious blocks and hid them in the darkest corners of the world, having faith that in her absence, a hero would rise up and use these blocks to restore balance to the earth.

After many years, rumors of the Woob Blocks began to surface. Evil doers from all edges of the Great World mobilize their forces, and begin searching the globe for these amazing treasures.

Wooby's father, keeper of one of the Woob Blocks, is robbed by his family's arch nemesis, the villain known as Crock. Its up to Wooby to seek out the Woob Blocks before they fall into the wrong hands!
The race is on!"

*if at one point you get teleported to the ocean, hold ctrl and walk up a little bit, and go in the town near the castle
*if when leaving lavendar country on worldmap and trying to enter the checkpoint between the purple and green countries there may be an invisible blockage in the way, just ctrl by it.

(Reference) Looking Forward: The Huntress of The Hollow - RMN

(from RMN - Looking Forward: The Huntress of The Hollow by LordBlueRouge - October 31st 2016)

Over the last few of weeks, following its initial release, I noticed the rpgmaker2003 game "The Huntress of the Hollow" has been generating quite a bit of buzz; hovering on RMN's front page, often dropping down to the 8th spot, only to suddenly climb back up to 3rd or 2nd place.

Now normally, from past experience, we'd probably all chalk this phenomena up, to a semi-popular youtuber doing yet-another let's play of an rpgmaker2003 game.

But after carefully doing a quick google search, it becomes immediately apparent that only a handful of youtubers have actually done a let's play of "The Huntress of the Hollow".

...Either way, it's very unusual for a newly released rpgmaker2003 game to be generating such a large amount of buzz in such a short amount of time, shortly after it's release. But to be able to then, further generate that buzz consistently for 7 solid weeks straight afterwards? That's incredible.

So, rather than bitterly blame this curious occurrence, on some faulty RMN site algorithm, on this special edition of "Looking Back"...with special permission from Tau, I’ve decided to "Look Forward", by sitting down and interviewing the creator of "The Huntress of the Hollow” in order to see what I could learn from, what many consider to be the new face of rpgmaker2003 on RMN.

(Archive) Final Fantasy VII 2D Remake - Vanit

(from Final Fantasy 7 2D Remake's GamePage Blog on RMN by Vanit - December 6th 2013)

Hey guys, finally submitting a page here so my game is more accessible. TLDR: project is largely on hiatus, but I do plan to finish the bombing mission.

A little about me:

I graduated from a Bachelor of Engineering majoring in Software Engineering (2011), and I'm currently working as a developer for a startup (web, Android, iOS).

When I started my degree I decided to experiment on a high level with the programming concepts I was learning in something I was familiar with; RPG Maker 2003. Over the years I've seen many people attempt a 2D remake of FF7 and fail, so I thought I'd try do it right.
